I said I would update in August but I took some extra time to recover from my surgery instead, so I think you’ll all forgive me!
Still obsessed with Deltarune and I think this blog update will be very exciting because as soon as I could use a sketch app to draw, I got busy making a lot of art, and a full length animatic video!
Um. I can explain. Like if we want to make this an interesting blog post, I could talk about my divorce trauma and how tv media and video games also comforted me during tough times as a child but…I think playing Deltarune chapter 3 will be a similar enough window into exploring that. Which is why I love this character that represents so much pain and comforting nostalgia all in one. Love this weirdo. I will spare you from sharing every single sketch I have of him, but will still share quite a bit which reflects my growth as an artist and animator.

Sometimes I don’t have time to be on the computer…so I’ve started learning how to animate on my phone, using ibispaint. One day I hope to afford animation software for on the go, but for now, ibispaint is great for exercises I want and need to practice, and playing with ideas I have.

Around this time, I started hatching this idea, of my first animatic. This bluesky thread was a way to track my process, my progress and help both motivate and pace myself to see how far I was getting over time, and I’m glad I recorded it because it gets hopeless if I don’t see where I’m coming from, and I’d highly recommend recording your progress in some manner if you’re able to when scripting your own animatic ideas or stories.

The characters stories are so compelling, and I felt this song really fit them and their tragedy, and one can only speculate what the actual situationship was … but without a doubt they are obsessed with each other.

Tenna as a character has been a blessed muse to work with…he’s got a great, magnetic appeal and character design, which makes it easy to practice semi-realism and cartoons with because he is so animated himself!
